Dear Friends

Greetings in the precious Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

General Charles Gordon

In Sudan Gordon Pasha is greatly respected as the Christian general who ended the slave trade in Sudan and set many captives free. General Gordon was the most famous British general of the 19 th century. His courage and resourcefulness in the Crimean War, in China against the Taiping rebels, and in Sudan were legendary.

The Christian General

General Gordon also served as Commandant General at the Cape Colony. While stationed at the Castle in Cape Town, he shared the Gospel with the Zulu King Ceshwayo. He also wrote evangelistic tracts which were translated into Dutch and Zulu. General Gordon’s strong support for the Boers and for the Zulus and his objections to the British government treatment of them, made him distinctly unpopular with the authorities.

The Biblical Scholar and Archeologist

This led to Gordon’s year of research in the Holy Land where he identified the site of the Crucifixion and the Garden Tomb. This Thursday night, 19 August, at 7:30 pm, I will be presenting a new PowerPoint on General Charles Gordon and his fascinating life and legacy.

Operation Nehemiah

Tonight, Tuesday, 17 August at 8:30pm on Radio Tygerberg 104FM, Mike and I will be presenting Operation Nehemiah, a positive, practical programme to re-build our society on Biblical principles.

Livingstone Fellowship

This Sunday, 22 August, 11am, we will deal with the essential foundations that need to be laid for effective evangelism, turning objections and obstacles into stepping stones for leading our family members, friends and neighbours to the Lord. This Sunday will also be a bring and share Fellowship Lunch.

South Africa Mission

As Mike and I will be driving off next week on an intensive mission there will not be Livingstone Fellowship services on 29 August, and 5 and 12 September. Neither will there be Reformation Society meetings in our absence. Therefore, Thursday, 26 August and Thursday, 2 and 9 September, there will be no Reformation Society meetings. However, God willing, we will be back in time to conduct the Thursday, 16 September Reformation Society meeting, and Livingstone Fellowship services will continue again on 19 September.

Seminars, Services and School Meetings

Please pray for this South Africa mission where I will be conducting Biblical Worldview Seminars in the Transvaal and in the Eastern Cape, a Great Commission Seminar at Back to the Bible Training College near Barberton in Mpumalanga, speaking at the Christians For Truth Conference at KwaSizabantu Mission, ministering at Jivannadi Mission and a number of other churches. We will also have numerous radio interviews and programmes and minister at different Christian schools throughout the country.

Salt and Light

In our absence, George Oesch and Gerhard Le Roux of KwaSizabantu Mission will be taking the Salt and Light radio programmes on Tuesday nights.

May God continue to be your joy and strength.

Yours for Reformation and Revival

Dr. Peter Hammond
